National Water Summary: Ground-Water Resources, Delaware

Excerpt from Introduction

Ground water is the primary source of public, rural, and industrial water supply in 94 percent of the State of Delaware. Only the northernmost 6 percent of the State is supplied predominantly by surface water. Most of Delaware's population is concentrated in the northern part of the State; consequently, about 60 percent of the statewide population is served by ground water and 40 percent by surface water. Ground-water withdrawals in 1980 for various uses and related statistics are given in table 1
