National Water Summary: Groundwater Resources, Delaware

Excerpt from Introduction

Groundwater is the primary source of public, rural, and industrial water supply in 94 percent of the State of Delaware. Only the northernmost 6 percent of the State is supplied predominantly by surface water. Most of Delaware's population is concentrated in the northern part of the State; consequently, about 60 percent of the statewide population is served by Groundwater and 40 percent by surface water. Groundwater withdrawals in 1980 for various uses and related statistics are given in table 1
