One hundred and five shallow, domestic wells, most of which were privately owned, were sampled once between July and September, 1993 to 1995. In the Piedmont and Triassic Lowlands subunits, wells were randomly selected regardless of land use. In the Great Valley Carbonate and Valley and Ridge subunits, wells were randomly selected from agricultural land-use areas only. Three additional sites in the Valley and Ridge subunit were selected in forested areas.
Twenty-nine wells in the Great Valley Carbonate subunit were sampled in 1993. Twenty-five wells in the Piedmont subunit and 23 wells in the Triassic Lowlands subunit were sampled in 1994. Twenty-eight wells were sampled in the Valley and Ridge subunit in 1995.
