Samples were collected from a network of 30 monitoring wells in recently developed suburban areas around Washington, D.C. and two reference wells in undeveloped parkland in the summer of 2003. The data will be used to define the water quality in recharge areas of the upper saturated zone of the bedrock aquifer underlying areas of new residential and commercial land use and to determine which natural and human factors most strongly affect the occurrence of chemicals in the shallow aquifer.
