The surficial Coastal Plain aquifer system is an important source of drinking water on the Delmarva Peninsula. A network of 29 wells screened in the deeper part of the surficial aquifer used for domestic supply (median depth 45 feet) was sampled in 2001 to determine the occurrence and spatial distribution of selected chemicals in the unconfined aquifer on the Delmarva Peninsula. Twenty-three of these wells were previously sampled in 1988 and 1990, and results were used to evaluate trends in ground-water quality.
